Despite my typical excitement over rain, I’ve been super busy and was in the midst of working on a writing project when their giggles of delight drew me to the window. And then it hit me, “Hello Heather. Go OUTSIDE and play WITH your kids.” You would think that this would be my primary response by now… I was a smidge stressed and could use the time to laugh, unwind and play too.
We enjoyed a good deal of time outdoors this week. Inspired by our adventures with mesquite, we continued to collect pods.
We tackled a fitness assessment for our new PE program that we are starting and took a few IMAGINATION WALKS. Do your kids like to ‘make-believe’ while out for walks? I’m curious to know what girls might make-up… Over here we discovered a ‘monster’ living in the storm drains and the bushes all had chomping alligators. It was fun to enter into their imaginative world with them -running around corners, hiding behind street poles and to run screaming away from rustling bushes. I can only imagine that the neighbors think I’m totally nuts if they weren’t sure of that before…
And of course, our Fourth of July celebrations lent itself to time outdoors as well. There is something so idyllic about gathering on a blanket to watch fireworks!

Mima – yes, Greta is quite doted on over here!
Gina, I hear you. When it gets both really hot AND muggy motivation to get outside goes downhill. Since we are heading into our more humid time of year with monsoon season here, it will be interesting to see how our outdoor time progresses.

Such beautiful pictures! I bet that playing tag would be a blast outdoors in the rain. 🙂 We’ve been stuggling a bit here for extra time outside, since it has been sooo hot and humid! Hopefully we’ll get relief soon.

It looks like you had a ball. Haven’t played in the rain since in my 20s. And I love the pics of Keegan with Greta. She is soooo loved.
Love, MiMa

I love that you went and played in the rain with your boys!! I find that it’s so important to stop, listen to that voice and go do those things with our little ones! We took a family walk down to the store (only store in town) tonight, and I was thinking how nice that simple act was.

Jennifer, I agree with you. There is so much beauty in the simple things. I think sometimes we can be tempted to make everything so complicated (at least I can anyways). Your family walk to the store sounds delightful.
